This is certainly not the first blog on green issues, neither will it be the last. Also it is not a specialist or scientific blog, but rather a communication by a normal (passionate) citizen with other normal citizens. We can leave the future well-being of our planet to the scientists, engineers, business persons or politicians of our world - but if we are serious to actually change anything, it needs to start with the normal citizen i.e. YOU and ME.
Almost daily our senses are piqued by environmental issues, whether it be disasters e.g. earthquakes, mining accidents, wildfires, floods, pollution of rivers and oceans, or potential disasters e.g. water crisis, electricity shortages, threat to food security. In short there is virtually no aspect of our lives that are not impacted by the environment or that impacts the environment. How we manage these impacts today will determine whether we will be considered good stewards of our planet, or just more indifferent oxygen consumers!
I need to state up front that this blog will not advocate hugging trees for mere hugging, but would aim to propose and share practical hints, customs, habits, technologies to help us be responsible citizens and good stewards of this enormous, complicated but threatened organism called earth. We only have one, so lets look after it. If we can take the American First Nation quote "we did not inherit the earth from our ancestors, but are borrowing it from our children" to heart, we are well on our way to becoming more responsible in embracing a sustainable lifestyle.
I would like to invite you to accompany me on this journey. Comments and contributions are most welcome.
